Customer Reviews

And buy this game. This game has good graphics and I am using a 6850 and AMD 945 @ 3.4ghz. Runs smooth and no lag. Takes a bit getting used to at first (i.e.batting and pitching), but I am finding myself enjoying this game immensely. I have not had much time with it so far, but I cant see any show stopping bugs after 10 hours of play.

For the casual baseball fan that wants to play some good baseball on his PC. This is the game to get. I appreciate the fact that 2K is still supporting the PC. And likewise I will help support them.

Every year people complain that we dont get updates as fast as the console counterparts. But just be happy that actually care enough to release a version.

2K. I know you guys pour alot of money into marketing. But you should really market more toward the 28-35 crowd. We grew up with all the game machines and we are now the likely audience to actually buy the game.

To sum it up. This game is alot of fun and I cant wait for Baseball to start! Go A’s!
If ever there was a game that would be perfect for the PC platform it would be a baseball management game. This is not that game, in fact it’s not even close to being that game. The game seems to be directly copied from a console to perform on the PC. This becomes most obvious when you realize that the default settings for the controls are meant for a gamepad that you “obviously” already own… Anyways you have the option to change the hotkeys so you’d think that would solve the problem but it really doesn’t. Having the same key do different things (for batting, fielding, pitching etc) might work with a gamepad but with a keyboard it turns out to be very counter intuitive, I tried several hotkeybindings to sort this out but no matter what I did it never seemed to work for both batting and pitching at the same time.

Now you might have a gamepad and figure that you can therefore live with this obvious fault but I should warn you. The controls aren’t the only thing directly copied from the console versions. Where PC’s excel is with managing databases, data and information with easy click-and-go accessibility. MLB2k11 has none of that, the menu’s are cluttered and your mouse will be mostly useless in trying to get through it. When playing this game I constantly felt lost in the menu’s or frustrated by my lack of control over the system. I have played quite a lot of sports game (soccer, hockey and basketball games) and never have I seen a menu being this awkward.

One last thing about the controls/gameplay. For some reason gamedesigners think they can recreate what its like playing baseball for real on a computerscreen. Thus you get thrown into the roll of pitcher and batter in this game. The pitching works well enough, you set a target using the directional keys and pick the sort of pitch you want to make then press that pitch’s corresponding button long enough to get the optimum power on it and it releases. This works pretty well on the PC (though it’s clear it was meant for the console players) but it gets complicated if you would perhaps like to pick off a runner or something. Now the real issue with the gameplay comes with the batting, gone are the directions you can send the ball too, in fact any control whatsoever over your hit is pretty much gone. It turns into a very frustrating game of trying to time hitting the ‘hit’ button at just the right time. 9/10 times you will be too early or too late and the 10th time you manage to hit the ball straight into the hand of the outfielders. Trying for some actual hitting strategies seems useless with the lack of control you have, its just pounding a button at the right time and then hoping the ball falls somewhere decent.

Now maybe you don’t care about the gameplay at all and you just plan on simming your games and focusing on the managing part of your team and maybe for you the menu options and navigation actually make sense. There is however one last thing you should consider, you will need a very fast PC to be able to survive simming this game. My computer is barely a year old and although not really a gaming computer still quite above the recommended System requirements and yet the game is incredibly slow whilst simming games. It took me a minute to sim just one gameday and with the prospect of 160 to go in the season this got depressing very fast.

Anyways other people seem to have had different experiences with this game then I did but and there are obvious things that go in its favor (the updated rosters etc.) but all I can say is that I wouldn’t recommend this to any baseballloving gamer and most definetly not to any casual gamer who would like to try out a baseball game. If you have to play your local team’s heroes and lead them to that world series that you know they should be capable off I would suggest getting a console version because the PC version is just not worth your money
Baseball games are about the most fun a red-blooded american boy can have. I have owned alot of baseball games going back to the Tony Larusa set of games that I played on my 386SX PC. I look for playablity in a game. I’ve seen games that look pretty but don’t play very well. MLB 2K11 is not one of those games. It may not be the absolute best looking game I’ve seen to date, but it plays very well and has a lot of in-game featuress that make it a very cool baseball game.

One of those features is that the announcers during some point in the game will come up with stats on your player (I create players and insert them into my favorte team)or other players around the league that make it more interesting especially when you see one of your players listed at the top or near the top of the hitting category that the announcers are discussing. The game is very scalable according to your degree of experience. You can make it as easy as you like or as hard as you like. Other great features are instant replay and player creation.

I am more of a person that likes to play the games instead of managing or simming however I do sim games to shorten season and make any adjustments to the team along the way. Playing about every 5th game makes for a long enough season. This game has all these capabilities. You can manage, sim or play any given game that is on your schedule.

The reason for 4 overall stars instead of 5 is that the graphics are NOT the best out there and some of the player movements are a bit unnatural. The player stats area is a bit strange as well since that 1 graph is used show all the stats. You have to cursor over to the subject heading and hit the sort button to see who is the best or worst player for that category. Players that don’t have enough games to qualify show up which distorts the stats. All categories should be a on a seperate page where the unqualified players are automatically filtered out or at least have the opton to filter them out.

This is a great game and it is fun to play.

Harness the power of the Kinect and immerse yourself in relaxation and meditation with Deepak Chopra’s Leela. Sanskrit for

Customer Reviews

Leela is a new way to learn and play with kinect.
I bought a book on Chakras (7 energy centers that rise up your torso to the crown of your head) many years ago and have always been moderately interested in meditaion.

This game from Deepak Chopra and Curious Pictures is pretty amazing.
I played the demo 3 times last week and seemed to feel a little better. So I purchased the full game and am pleased with the variety of activities to unlock.
The control method works well, the menus are easy to navigate. I found I play more calmly and in control with each time I play.
The Presentation Sound and Visuals are very well done and will help your breathing, relaxation, and put you into a flow state if you let it.

I will break down what the game offers.

There are 2 main branches to the game, Play and Reflect.
Play’s Movement section is broken down into 7 chakras each with seven levels. Each level adds a new element to play with.
The movements you perform to control the visual game onscreen are exersises to help open your Chakras. (you will be rotating and bending hips, chest and sholders, and expanding your arms and pushing gently outward, depending on the level/chakra).

The 2nd section of Play is Sequence. Where you perform a series of Movements to open multiple chakras.
The 3rd is Mandala in which you create a personal mandala image to help guide you back to meditation.

Reflect contains: Stilness, Oracle and Ambient

Stilness has 7 guided meditations with Deepak’s voice and some visuals and music.
Breath Practice has 7 different meditations that help you control your breathing with onscreen visuals that actually match your breath in your lower middle and upper torso.
Finally 7 silent meditation lengths are available from 2 minutes to infinite. They also each offer 7 sound choices and no speech.

Oracle contains quotes from Deepak that arises after you’ve reflected on something.

Ambient lets you listen to the music in the game with backdrops from various parts of the game .

So there is plenty to do, and I look forward to making this a daily routine.
If you are curious about meditation, and/or playing a game in a relaxed new innovative way, I highly recommend Leela. It is extremely well done with wonderful music, psychedelic trance inducing visuals and is a nice introduction to chakras and meditation.
It’s just what I’ve been looking for in the back of my mind all these years.

**It’s been almost a week now of daily leela and I must say I feel more calm overall, especially right after a meditation of course. It really seems to work if I breath with my movements in the Play section as well.
Leela is a mixed bag but not a bad one. It depends on what you are looking for. It could be better in many ways but I applaud it as one of the first dedicated uses of the XBOX kinect to enhance spiritual practice. I hope that others follow and use this platform for interactive guided meditation as well as disciplines like Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Reiki and other healing forms of body work.

The first thing you need to know about this program is that it has three major sections. After you create a personal mandala (you don’t have a full creative palette here and it is hard to make the game freeze on the exact shape you want), you are invited to either PLAY or REFLECT. If you want to relax do not enter PLAY. All of the “games” listed under the chakras will quickly tense up the part of the body required to move the game pieces and as you go up in level produce more and more adrenalin. One section, the one on INTUITION reminded me a lot of the tunnels in Mizuguchi’s “Eden” and blasting rocks and gems in the POWER section did not connect me with my personal power, only my rail shooter skills. Still, this has to sell as a game and the games in this section are reasonably fun if not spiritually enhancing.

As noted the games are fun, but for those of you who own Chopra’s Wild Divine or Journey, this game does not contain anything like those calming visualizations and does not allow you to control the game via relaxation and breathing techniques. Beyond knowing what your chakras are and what they do, you won’t win the games by using your body to “gently flow” the game piece as suggested in the instructions. A jerky movement is required to quickly pop the game piece on a particular course, especially at the higher levels of each game. Not one of the six chakra games I’ve played so far has left me feeling relaxed or meditative. Even at the second level (there are 7 levels of play for each charka) of the second Chakra game, the “gentle sway” of my hips that was supposed to guide the game piece around a circle, quickly turned into exaggerated side lunges to get it to move any distance at all.

The REFLECT contains STILLNESS and an ORACLE that opens once you reach the third level in all REFLECT offerings. This area doesn’t have games. It is made up of breathing exercises and guided and unguided meditations. I found that most of the exercises didn’t provide me with more than I could do on my own. You get to pick from several types of droning music while watching three bars expand and contract with your breathing. Kinect watches your breath which is cool but there is a bit of hesitation here and there that makes the feature more annoying than useful. Wearing a tight fitting top would probably help this. Be sure to note the time stated on each breathing level as there is no bonus or penalty for right or incorrect breathing. You simply sit for the amount of time indicated when you first enter the level. It is also useful to note that most people don’t like to meditate in glaringly bright light. Kinect is light sensitive so you have to pump up the lumens to get a good reading, especially for those of you with darker skin. I also found that most of the dialog and guided meditations I encountered moved too fast or went on too long.

I found the “ORACLE” to be more of a thought for the day or affirmation generator. I didn’t find what it generated to be that meaningful in terms of answering my question. I wasn’t able to get into the AMBIENT section yet, but from I’ve seen I assume there will be additional audio files available there. I’ll report back when I finish the levels and provide more details.
Leela is a tough “game” to review. I didn’t purchase the game expecting a deep and rewarding gameplay experience, but I was hoping for a relaxing one. On the one hand, I did get what I expected from the guided meditation (or Reflect) exercises, which are indeed very relaxing and are a great way to unwind and get grounded after a long day. The mini-game (or Play) sections are a very different story. The first few levels are engaging enough, and the controls don’t work against you to make the experience too painful. However, as you move on to the later exercises, and particularly the higher levels of those exercises, it becomes apparent that the Kinect controls leave a lot to be desired. It is ironic that I have not felt so frustrated playing a game, if not literally angry, as I have felt while playing some of the later Leela levels. They bring neither a feeling of relaxation or accomplishment upon their completion, but rather a sense of relief that it is over, and possibly a sense of shame for even forcing yourself to get through it in the first place. The game tell you to relax and make subtle movements, but before long you will find yourself rigid and jerking left and right just to try to accomplish your goals.

Sadly, due to the sloppy and unintuitive controls, the entire ‘Play’ portion of Leela is a missed opportunity. It will often leave you feeling more agitated and tense than before you put the game in. Again, the guided meditation portions are much better, but the fact is that you can find videos on the internet for free that work just as well. The main reason to buy this game is for the Kinect functionality, which barely functions at all. I still recommend this game for those of you looking to get into meditation, as the “Reflect” potion of the game does a good job of easing newcomers into the concepts and practices. However, I highly recommend holding off until you can purchase it at a lower price ($20 or less). For those looking to purchase the game simply for the mini-games, I recommend passing on Leela entirely. It is not worth the time or the money.

Edit: In light of the fact that I’ve been able to find videos online (for free) that work better than this game both in terms of providing movement exercises and guided meditations, I’ve lowered my review by one star. I highly recommend simply downloading the demo to find out if you’re interested in these types of exercises. If so, keep in mind that there are better and cheaper ways of pursuing exercise and relaxation than this game offers.

Customer Reviews

I’ve been waiting for an Indiana Jones adventure game for the DS that isn’t a Lego game, and now that it’s arrived, I’m having a blast! I can’t put it down. The environments are well-designed, the fighting system is lots of fun (eat whip, Bad Guys!) and the use of actual John Williams music from the movies makes me feel like I’m completely immersed in an Indiana Jones film.
The only faults I can find are some minor control issues (sometimes it takes several tries to make Indy climb or jump), and I wish Indy could run a little faster (is this Indy from Raiders or Indy from Crystal Skull?). Also, the game is on rails for the most part and you can only go in one or two directions, but there are treasures to find and hidden areas to explore.
Overall, I really am enjoying this game, and hope there is a sequel in the works. We need more Indiana Jones games for the DS!
I love the movies so i had to have the game. This was the first game i bought for my ds. It was a lot of fun. My boys had to help me in some parts but when you win Its a great feeling.
My four boys play this game for hours. I have even played it with them. It is neat how they get to construct different items and then destruct the bad guys. Also, it is not too hard to learn to play it. My five year old and my fourteen year old both play it.

Build’n Race isn’t bad, but it should’ve been better. There are a lot of weaknesses, but it’s still playable and I imagine that many will still find it a fun game.

Let’s start with a basic shortcoming: there’s no Internet access. There’s no online play, and no ability to share any tracks that you build. For a number of gamers, that’s going to be a deal-killer. You can have up to 4 players connected to your Wii, but nobody else.

Another problem is that there is only one level of play. There’s no “beginner’s level”, and no “expert level”. They classify the 60 pre-built tracks into four difficulty levels, but there’s really not that much more difficult about the hardest than the easiest ones. Once you start getting control over the driving, it’s pretty easy to blast through all 8 championships. In fact, it gets *easier* as you go along because you get new cars that are easier to drive.

The basic (solo) play: there are 8 championship trophies. The first 4 consist of one race on each of 7 tracks, and the last 4 consist of one race on each of 8 tracks. You’re awarded points for how you finish in each race. There are 6 AI cars on the track with you, 3 right next to you at the beginning, and another 3 that always have a head-start. The point allocations for the AI cars is inconsistent — expect the highest-placing AI car to get almost all of the highest point scores even though that particular driver didn’t actually earn them.

You start with 7 tracks unlocked for the first championship; placing at least 3rd in that championship unlocks the 7 tracks for the second championship. Oddly, winning the second championship unlocks the 14 tracks for the 3rd and 4th championships. The 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th championships each unlock 8 more tracks, and placing at least 3rd in the 8th championship unlocks the Time Challenge mode. The tracks cycle through three environments: city streets, racetracks, and country roads. There’s a considerable amount of sameness to the tracks; for example, the racetrack layouts almost always feature extended elevated sections with no guardrails. Almost all of the tracks involve some form of figure-8 layout.

You start with a choice of 2 cars: the GTX and the GTO. Both are prone to oversteer and spinning out, especially if you try to turn while on the gas or the brake; I found the GTO to not be as bad as the GTX. Placing at least third in certain championships unlocks an additional car. *IF* I recall correctly, the 2nd championship unlocks the very useful EVO, the 4th championship unlocks the Z66, the 5th unlocks the taxi cab, and the 7th unlocks the police car. The cars are rated by speed, acceleration, braking, and handling. Speed and braking aren’t very important. Handling is best toward the center: high handling levels indicate a tendency to spin out, while low handling levels indicate a tendency to plow off course.

There are 3 control layouts available for driving: sideways controller using the D-pad to steer, sideways controller using tilt to steer (as with the Wii wheel), and nunchuck using the control stick to steer. The menu system seems to always assume a sideways controller unless a nunchuck is connected, and you can’t “point” at menu items. Very un-Wii-like.

For some reason they made the tachometer be a big dial with the needle, while the speedometer is a considerably smaller digital readout inside that. Since the cars all have automatic shifting, the tachometer is worthless. I don’t like having to stare at the digital readout to make out my speed.

The driving physics aren’t particularly realistic. It does help to brake before a bend, to stay off both the gas and brake through most of a bend, and to hit the gas as you start to come out of a bend. But basically, it’s arcade-ish. If you find yourself upside-down, just hold the steering to one side and the car will eventually roll itself over in that direction (not that you’d try this if you use the tip below).

Tip: while racing, try to avoid collisions with the other cars until you’re better able to control the results. Most collisions will result in spinouts (especially with the GTX and GTO) or off-track excursions — which means a lot of lost time.

Tip: while racing, always be prepared to hit the “-” button to reset your car on the track. Don’t wait for an off-track excursion to finish, or try to get yourself “unhung” from an obstacle or un-spun-out or right-side-up. There seems to be no time penalty for hitting “-”. Then use the “turbo” to get yourself back up to speed quickly. There are two tracks which feature a right-angle turn on a pier over a lake — don’t waste your time trying to get slowed down and get around that ridiculously tight corner; just blast full-speed off the end of the pier and quickly hit “-” and “turbo”.

Tip: in the city street tracks, the “checkpoint” marker has stairs up the sides. If you accidentally run into the stairs you can power over them by using the turbo, but don’t do that. You’ll end up a lap behind for missing the checkpoint. Use the “-” key instead.

Tip: in the championships, keep retrying each race until you get a good finish in it. Your points for a track will be based on the last race that you run on the track. Don’t settle for less than third on any track, and you’re guaranteed at least a third-place finish in the championship. Just run the race over and over and over until you get it right!

Tip: there are three views available: normal, farther away, and in-car. Press the A button to switch views (I’m going to guess that it’s the C button when using the Nunchuk control system).

Tip: my favorite car on most courses is the Z66, with the EVO a reasonable second. The taxicab is mostly a “handicap” car when racing against someone with lower skills, but may be useful on the really short and slow tracks. The police car isn’t as slow as its numbers indicate, but at about 165 MPH it’ll suddenly make an uncommanded sharp turn–fortunately, you’ll probably never hit that speed on any of the pre-built tracks.

The track builder is comprehensive but poorly documented and clunky. First you choose one of the three environments (or a copy of a pre-built track); that determines what track pieces you get to work with. The track area is a 30×30 grid, and you can drop in 255 items. The items may be actual track or they may be scenery. Some pieces take more than 1 grid square — for example, a long curve takes a 3×3 section. You select the category of piece you want to use, and then the specific piece, using the D-pad. You orient it in the right direction with the 1 and 2 buttons, position it with the nunchuck control stick, and press A to place it. Pressing B removes the piece at the current location. Some pieces go below-ground and some are aerial. With some pieces it’s very difficult to tell how they’re oriented — the worst are the flat-to-banked transition pieces, where you need to know which end is banked and which way it’s banked.

Building underground segments (tunnels) can be quite a challenge. Tunnels are constructed in a different view than ground-level and above-ground track pieces are. In the underground view, vertical positioning is very difficult to determine visually. Fortunately, there’s a readout of the cursor’s current vertical level. Now you just need to remember the levels of the adjoining pieces.

In the end, track-building isn’t something that you can just fuss around with. If you’re going to do it, you’re going to have to spend a fair amount of time mastering it. And there are no tutorials and no documentation on it beyond the controller/nunchuck control layout diagram.

The manual is wrong in many places; maybe the game was changed after the manual went to press. The box is also wrong in a couple of minor ways: there are 60 prebuilt tracks, not 80, and the “E” ESRB rating says that there’s an alcohol reference when there isn’t.
This is a good game, however there are a few things that you might not like.
There are only two cars available when you start the game and it will take sometime to unlock the rest. Its way too easy to get stuck somewhere in the track. At that point the race is lost and you have to restart over. A way to avoid this is to limit the use of the nitro/booster. The track editor is not that simple because you have to combine the right pieces. Said that, the game has a lot of built in tracks, different challenges and the editor will increase the longevity of this game.

major bug in the profiles. no created profile list for picking drivers in multiplayer mode. would be nice to have more options in track builder mode like zooming out to see the whole track. needs option to turn off commentary during races.

Customer Reviews

I was looking to buy a portable baseball game that I can take on the go with me. Since there is a dearth of baseball games on the Nintendo DS, I picked up a copy of this game. MLB 2k11 for the DS is a fun, but not great game that is enjoyable with a few annoyances.

The graphics on this game are not anything I would call spectacular. The players, while they look human, are more like sprites with jagged edges. The animations are canned and look the most part unnatural. Every game is played during the daytime, although you only can view the field while at bat as fielders are only represented by circles. There is also no umpire behind the plate. The stadiums themselves (what you can see) are the only part of the graphics that are above average as most look like there real world counterparts and feature some nice details. Finally, even with the streamlined graphics, the framerate does stutter in some spots, most notably when you strike a batter out.

The Sound is barely noticeable and forgettable. Gary Thorne is the only announcer carried over from the consoles and while his play-by-play is mostly accurate, it gets repetitive quickly. The other sounds are limited to some in-game music every now and then, the umpires calls and the sound of the ball hitting the bat. The menu music is the generic baseball theme carried over from the consoles.

Control-wise the game is mostly responsive. Pitching is simple enough. Just press and hold the button, wait for the circle to expand to full for power and then release and then press the button again when the circle is small. Batting is also simple enough. Press B for contact swing, A for power, and Y to bunt. Stealing and advancing are controlled by the L

Customer Reviews

Pros
-Very very good functionality: it works as a wireless gamecube AND vc controller, which is unprecedented, and the response time is excellent, no lagging
-button remapping
-optional rumble that is very strong
-It has a nice feel

Cons
-Everything is very tight, small, and close together: sometimes my thumb hits the left control stick when I’m using the pad, and I have had more than one case of hitting the remap, turbo, or slow buttons while using the control stick. This is REALLY annoying, as it will result in weird things randomly happening , like a button suddenly not working, or the start screen suddenly popping on and off rapidly, etc., because you hit a button without realizing it. Just remember that if you are going to get / use this controller, you will need to be precise and pay attention when you use the buttons / sticks, if you don’t want things like turbo and slow getting activated, which are really rather useless buttons anyway. The controller would be far better off without them. And would it have hurt to move these buttons up to the empty space at the top of the controller, rather than right in between the sticks where you’re likely to hit them? I don’t think so.

[Edit] – Over time, maybe it’s just that I’ve gotten used to it, but my thumb hitting the turbo, map, and slow buttons isn’t really a problem anymore. However, I still will have the occasional instance of hitting the slow button, usually during an intense gaming session. But the point is, you get used to it.

-The shoulder buttons are TERRIBLE, for gamecube or VC. It only registers as a full press if you push it down really hard, which is what you will have to do for VC games that use the shoulder buttons. For gamecube games that often use the sensitivity of the buttons, you will have to be really precise with how far you push it down if you want it to work. Pressing a shoulder-button partway doesn’t read as a partial press, unlike the wavebird, when you first press it there’s a dead zone, and then right before you reach the point where it’s fully pushed in will it briefly read as a partial button-press. This is difficult to perform, but at least it’s there.
-A couple minor quibbles to top it off – the control stick’s sensitivity isn’t ideal – when you first start to tilt, it does nothing, but then it starts to register, at relatively high sensitivity. You’ll need to be precise. Also, the pad does not feel as high quality as I had hoped it would.

[Edit] – The tightness

Customer Reviews

Let me start off by saying that I buy only one video game a year on release day and that is my yearly MLB 2K game. I prefer to wait and read reviews. However, I can’t wait to unwrap 2K’s baseball bad boy and see whats changed. I’m sorry to say that this year’s edition is lacking!

First, the graphics are at times awesome. Stadium detail and environmental factors are wonderful. Spring training looks crisp with large rolling clouds and Florida palms. However, player development, appearances, and signatures come off on the lazy side. Batting stances and pitching deliveries look very similar if not identical to last year. As a devoted fan, I’m offended by this! I want more accurate appearances, tweaks, and signatures. I do not want a “new” $60 roster update. Secondly, The camera angles and fluidity of motion in gameplay is patchy. Sometimes it comes off flawless. However, the next time the camera will sometimes jerk and give unnatural pauses. Its almost like the visuals can’t catch up to the gameplay. I have since installed this game to my hard drive and it runs a lot better. This may not be an option for you depending on your drive size. I’d give this a poor overall score of 2 out of 5.

The gameplay is solid. I have found the controls that 2K uses feel more natural and balanced compared to games like The Show. I felt last year’s game had issues with analog movement and pitch recognition. This year’s game seems to recognize this much better. I’ve found that holding the analog stick in place after delivering your pitch motion seems to help. I also like that the pitching is more accurate with ball to strike ratio. However, the umpires literally give you no corner strikes. The A.I. on the game will seriously test your patience. You can be up 0-2 on a hitter only to watch him pass on 4 straight pitches on the black. If you have a quick temper, you might want to take a few breathers. The A.I. batters will literally single your pitcher to death sometimes. The fielding controls seem to be fluid but highly sensitive. Its very easy to make simple mistakes by not adjusting your position or timing and release. You also have very little time to nail speedy baserunners. The batting remains mostly unchanged from last year and sufficient. Overall, I would rate the gameplay at a 3.5/5.

The intangibles of the game leave me pretty disappointed. My favorite gameplay is franchise mode and little has been done to improve this feature. Forget accurate waiver, F/A signings, or customization. I don’t know who comes up with player contract information, but I have found several errors. For instance, Brian McCann starts a franchise in a walk year. In reality, McCann signed a six year contract in 2007 with a team option for a seventh. It would really awesome if somehow option contracts could make there way into the game. However, I would settle on 2k just getting the basics down first! Secondly, I’ve had several games where I’ve hit a homerun only to have the computer scale the wall for a catch. This is fine, but it ends up counting as a homerun and an out. Finally, one of the biggest complaints I have is in instant replay. This might just sound picky but the home plate umpire disappears. At first, I thought this was a glitch. However, every instant replay outside of swing analysis lacks the presence of a home plate umpire. Where does he go? 1.5/5.

I’ll continue to play MLB 2K11 and hope for some patches to fix the flaws. However, I don’t think they can’t patch out all of the “lazy” efforts in the game. My numbers average out to 2.3, but I’m rounding up on the hope that 2K improves the game in the next few weeks. In conclusion, I truely believe if The Show was marketed to Xbox, 2K sports would up their efforts!
I’ll give the game four stars, because it is really well-rendered and looks great. The play is also better. The only problems that still carry over from MLB 2K10 are:
1. Batters will still check-swing for no reason.
2. (Not a problem, just not understandable) When the game shows the replay of a hit (like a two-RBI double), it follows the runners rounding the bases instead of a wide shot showing the ball hitting the gap.
3. A problem I’m only encountering in Franchise Mode: the game freezes. That’s a problem, especially since it doesn’t seem to do it early on in the game. It tends to do it around the seventh or eight inning, when you REALLY don’t want to go and play the whole thing over again. Your only recourse at that point is to shut the console down and fire it up again. No, it’s not my console. I’ve checked the boards online and a lot of people are encountering this issue.
I have to add, I’ve NEVER encountered this problem just doing the Quick Play, although some on the boards say they have.
The pitching is about the same. The batting mechanics are the same. I’ve noticed, for some reason, if a grounder is hit up the middle and the SS or Second Baseman isn’t right there to dive for it, if you try to run at it, he runs in slow motion and it gets by.
It’s still fun to play, if you can get past the glitches. And, in my opinion, they’re not MAJOR fun-killers.
As a long-time player and fan of the 2K franchise, I pre-ordered this from Amazon, tore it out of the box, and started playing with my beloved White Sox. As eager as I was to play and as much as I continue to play it, I have to be honest and only rate it a 3 out of 5 stars. Why? Not much change from the previous version. I can’t really say that other than the pplayer updates and a few cosmetic changes, that you need to rush out and get this version unless you are a hard core sports gamer. In fact, while the Madden franchise really put a lot of effort behind speedign up game play from 2010 to 2011, I tend to find the game play in MLB 2K11 somewhat slower than in 2K10. It seems to take a much longer time to choose and then deliver the pitch. One improvement I have noticed is that in 2K10 you could pretty easily foul off balls for a while. 2K11 seems to have gotten smarter in this regard and doens’t let you do that quite as easily.

That said, you shouldn’t be confused and think that it is not a worthwhile game. It surely is and it is the best baseball game out there for the Xbox platform bar none. You will enjoy the game play immensely. It is just not a major upgrade from the previous version–which isn’t always bad!

Description of Wario Land: Shake It!

The Wario Land series is where Wario, Nintendo’s greedy, uncouth and rude anti-hero first appeared, and now he’s back in singleplayer action in Wario Land: Shake It. With the Wii Remote controller turned sideways like an old-school controller, veterans and newcomers alike can run, jump and smash their way through hectic side-scrolling stages. Players shake the Wii Remote to help Wario take down his enemies, empty bags of treasure or cause earthquakes. Best of all, there are numerous stages each offering multiple missions to keep players coming back again and again to unlock everything, collect more coins or just improve their best times.

Get ready to shake things up

Classic side-scrolling for coin.
.

Wobble enemies with the Wii Remote.
.

Take careful aim against bosses.
.
    Storyline and Gameplay
Wario receives an antique globe and telescope that allow him to travel to the once-idyllic Shake Dimension, now conquered by the tyrannical pirate, the Shake King. With the assistance of his longtime rival, Captain Syrup, he must rescue the Merfles, denizens of the Shake Dimension imprisoned by the Shake King. Only by defeating the bosses of all five continents of this strange world can Wario find and confront the Shake King, rescue Queen Merelda, queen of the Merfles, and, most importantly, claim the Bottomless Coin Sack, a never-ending supply of gold.

Each stage has Wario navigating an obstacle course of dangers and traps to find an imprisoned Merfle. Once he frees the little fellow, the countdown begins and he must find his way back to the starting gate before time runs out. Wario must also defeat a boss in each continent, and then buy a map of the next continent from Captain Syrup. Once all five continents’ bosses have been defeated, Wario takes on the Shake King himself.

Characters
Wario Land: Shake It features a wide cast of off-the-wall characters including: Wario, our “hero.” Captain Syrup, a female pirate (and rival from previous games) who aids Wario on his quest. The Merfles, helpless natives of the Shake Dimension, and their queen, Queen Merelda. The Shake King, leader of a ruthless pirate band who has conquered the Shake Dimension.

Customer Reviews

First, do NOT listen to the review from the irate parent because their child couldn’t figure this game out. This is a traditional 2D platformer from the people who invented the platformer, Nintendo. Similar to recent releases like Super Paper Mario, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and Mega Man 9, this game goes back to the roots of what made gaming fun back in the 80s, the levels. Holding the Wiimote sideways, you use the traditional button layout to control Wario, and shake it to release coins from enemies and money bags. Another cool feature of this game is the excellent hand-drawn animation from Japanese studio Production I.G. Not only do the animated cut scenes look great, but the in-game animation of Wario and especially his enemies is amazing to watch, and enthralling to play. If you remember the good old days when gaming wasn’t all about the polygons, then this one’s for you.
I purchased WarioLand ShakeIt! primarily because I’m a fan of old school 2D platform games. The Nintendo Wii was the first console I’ve owned since the Super Nintendo. This game harkens back to the days of yore, when games were fun and engaging.

WarioLand ShakeIt! features excellent graphics, catchy soundtrack tunes, and more importantly, engaging playability. The game uses the Wii controller at key points throughout the game. The level of control in using the controller can range from intuitive (shaking coin bags) to downright frustrating (controlling a unicycle). This is part of the challenge of the game. With practice, I expect to have more command over some of the controls.

The game serves as a perfect introduction for people who like casual gaming. There is an introductory level where you can practice techniques to get a feel for the game mechanics.

Each stage of the game includes several missions, which are above and beyond the task of clearing the level. These missions are challenging, and will require multiple replays to clear. That’s part of the fun this game has.

I’m working my way through the game methodically – playing each level and trying to complete each mission before moving along. I’ve had this game for almost 3 weeks now, and it’s still as fun and engaging now as it was when I first purchased it.

Advanced gamers may be quick to put this game down (I’ve heard reviews complain of the game’s short length -pegged at 6 hours or so) – but I think there’s really more here (especially with the missions) that makes the game a true challenge.

Do I enjoy WarioLand: ShakeIt? Yes, wholeheartedly. Would I buy this game again? Absolutely.

Positive:
2-D cartoon graphics look very sharp
solid gameplay with some great elements new to the series
smooth controls that also don’t over use motion capabilities
tons of treasures and missions add a lot of replay value
full of that funny, weird Wario personality and style

Negative:
- main adventure is pretty easy

Wario Land was my favorite game from the original GameBoy, and I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a 2-D platformer as much as I enjoyed it. When I heard the series was going to Wii as a full retail game, though, I had my doubts about how worthwhile it would be at full price. 2-D games have been very overshadowed by 3-D in this generation, and now gamers (myself included) are starting to feel that 2-D games are inferior to those in the third dimension. Does Wario Land: Shake It only further push those assumptions or does it prove us wrong?

Wario Land has a funny story, but it doesn’t show up very often. Basically the Shake King has taken over the Shake Dimension, imprisoning all the cute little residents, kidnapping the princess, and taking the great treasure: a coin bag that always gives you coins when you shake it. The only one to escape this horrible occurrence (named Merfle) somehow finds Wario in his own dimension, going on with his normal daily life. Captain Syrup and Merfle enlist Wario’s help in getting back the land, the princess, and most importantly the coin bag, and that’s the last you hear about the story until you defeat the Shake King. Both the beginning and end cutscenes have the sheer comedy you would expect from a Wario game, and the greedy hero takes nothing seriously and always loses out in the end.

The game progresses over the course of five areas, each with four levels and one boss. You have to beat one level to reach the next, but you can purchase the next area if you want to and have enough coins, so you can go through the game how you like. There may be only 20 main levels, but there are also lots of challenging bonus stages and each level (bonuses included) has three to seven missions and three treasure chests to find. I can guarantee you will feel inclined to go back and try to do more in the game than just beat all the levels, and to get everything you will have to play through each level a minimum of two times. So while there aren’t a ton of levels, the ones available are worth replaying.

Each level is very well designed in terms of playability. Getting through to the end is usually pretty easy, and after you reach the end of a level you have to get back to the beginning before time runs out, which almost turns into a fun minigame, actually. If you find the booster near the end of the level, you can take the fast way in which you are constantly running at high speed. Getting back to the start fast enough to clear the level’s mission based on time involves many well-timed jumps, slides, and turns and can be quite challenging. So the levels are very well designed in terms of playability, because you have to be able to get through the normally and then there is a whole course set up for high speed.

The level design complements the gameplay very nicely. Shake It plays like other 2-D platformers, you move left and right, jump, and all that, but Wario has always had the ability to charge as well, and now he also has an earthquake punch that can be used to stun enemies, solve puzzles, and other things. This is done with a shake of the Wii remote, a function that works quite well and isn’t over used. The Wii remote can also be shaken to get coins out of coin bags, which is a nice feature in the gameplay. Motion control is also used for a few submarine levels as well as in a boss fight, and tilting the controller to aim for throwing enemies and for shooting Wario out of a cannon works quite nicely too. Overall the concepts, level design, and controls come together very nicely for a great gameplay experience.

Shake It may be fully 2-D, but that’s not to say the graphics don’t look really sharp. They may not be stunning visuals like you see in Mario Galaxy, but it’s about as good as you can possibly make a 2-D game look. The objects and characters aren’t extremely detailed, but they look very smooth and sharp. The animations for all the actions look very nice too and add much to the humorous Wario feel. The level backgrounds look great too, and if you take a look, things such as large rocks will actually pop out in front of the level in some areas, but they don’t obstruct your vision at all. Shake It displays some of the finest 2-D graphics I’ve ever seen, and they really add a lot to the overall experience of the game.

Shake It sounds almost as good as it looks. The music tracks may not be the most memorable you’ve ever heard, but they sound really good and fit their respective environments very well. The sound effects are 100% Wario too, with funny sounds that have good quality.

In a world where 3-D is most often hailed as king, Wario Land: Shake It stands tall and proud. It manages to be just as fun as most of the 3-D games out there and delivers an experience any fan of the series or platformer aficionado will love. 2-D CAN be worth full price, you just have to be willing to pay up.

Gameplay: 9.0
Graphics: 9.0
Sound: 8.5
Camera

Customer Reviews

before I write the review, I must tell you something you are not gonna beleive! At Wal-Mart, you can buy the bundle of the Ac Dc track pack game, The Ac Dc No Bull concert DVD, and an exclusive T-shirt for only five bucks!! Amazing right? Now on to the review. The game doesn’t have much infact you can call it pretty much plain. No band costumization, no extra’s, just you playing about 16 songs live from ACDC, with a default band. It’s pretty much worth the five bucks I payed for it including the DVD and the T-Shirt so I really can’t complain. 4/5!!
Fun game at a reasonable price, provides hours of entertainment with all the required classics, plus some less-recognizable gems. Tour mode in ‘expert’ can be a bit tricky because the first song in the sequence is a killer. But you can also play in single play mode. Graphics are excellent (for PS2), based on the live ACDC tour. Some of the songs can get a bit tedious for drums or bass due to long guitar solos – but that’s the nature of the beast – it’s a live performance.

See my video at [..] for details.
I bought this game for my brother for Christmas. He loves Ac/DC and he loved it while he was in still into video games
