Customer Reviews

I played the original Red Steel and it was crazy hard to control.

This game was designed for the Wii Motion Plus, making this game really easy to control once you learn the controls.

Another thing on controls is that in the options menu, you can customize your controller settings. This lets you adjust among other things, crosshair movement speed, crosshair intertia and camera turning speed. I have mine turned down really low because our living room is set up with not a lot of distance between the tv and where I sit to play.

Now to the game itself.

The game blends shooting and sword combat, for example, you can shoot an enemy in the legs to drop him to his knees then rush him and with the swing of your arm you will execute him mercilessly, or shoot him in the face to stun him and run up to him and impale him with the thrust of your arm.

I have not completed the game, but there are some really cool elements here and the sword combat is a lot of fun though timing is everything. As you play through the game, you earn money which you can spend to upgrade your weapons, buy special moves and kusagari powers. Overall, lots of fun and the graphics are really good, one of the best I’ve seen on the Wii.
The original Red Steel, released back during the Wii launch of November 06, was a major disappointment to most. It tanked critically, yet managed to be a commercial success. The game promised a fast and precise controlled game where a mix of swordplay and fire fights shower the game. Unfortunately, a rushed release and lack of knowledge about Nintendo’s new device made Red Steel (1), a poor game. After nearly 4 years, Ubisoft has finally managed to fulfill on Red Steel’s promises, the sequel is a reboot to the original, with ties only in name and general concept. Red Steel 2, is very much an improved game, it controls like butter, yet has several faults that may well turn down this as a purchase for some.

RS2 is the second game to be released for use EXCLUSIVLY with the WiiMotion Plus device. This little add on grants players unprecedented precision and accuracy, and as Wii Sports Resort proves, it works very well. Your motions are now registered 98% of the time; your left motion is always read as left, your up as up, and these actions are never confused. Subtle twists of the wrists are read with speed. Even the IR based shooting parts of the game benefit from WiiMotion Plus, as the cursor is smoothened, it never flickers or “jumps” positions, and you continue to control it even after having pointed off-screen. RS2 is the best controlled first person game on Wii, and arguably on any home console. It runs at 60fps and ultimately performs better than Call of Duty Wii, The Conduit, or even Medal of Honor. The WiiMotion Plus does require the occasional recalibration, but this issue is minor and is hardly as big a deal as some people are making it.

Taking advantage of this new found precision, RS2 created a very fun combat system. Enemies are locked on (either automatically as you approach, or manually), and your sword swipes have a direct result on the enemy. This is one game were you must perform your motion as described in game; a wimpy swing or “waggle” will hardly damage anything, but a shoulder to shoulder swing will. Sword mode and gun mode are swapped with a single button, and is fast and works well. Of course the game plays its best when in sword mode, but certain finishers and game elements require and advocate the use of fire arms. Adding to this all are special moves that are slowly learned throughout the game. These moves act as combos, were chaining together simply motions at the right time activate major damage. One such move can lift an enemy into the air (where you can jump up and continue fighting) while another creates a big earthquake.

Players are propelled to continue playing because of the fun factor as well as the well designed upgrading system. In RS2, money found in game (by braking just about everything and slaughtering enemies) can be spent on upgrades to firearms, your blade, your armor, and special abilities. There are four long range weapons to choose from, although not all are available from the beginning of the game. Each weapon can be upgraded to an insane level, things like ammo capacity, reload speed, accuracy, and even types of ammo. Everything else is upgraded in a similar manner.

Despite the amazingly well done controls, RS2 has a nonsense and boring storyline. Old-school games won’t mind, but some newer gamers will definitely find it odd to play a 10 hour game with what is basically no plot or ambitions. The “shell” of a story that was found in the original is nowhere to be found. Again, is game is more a spiritual successor than a direct sequel. Voice acting is painfully bad. It’s not cheesy, just poorly acted and written.

Red Steel 2 is one of the best looking Wii games yet. The game runs a an amazingly fluid 60fps all the while maintaining increadibly detailed environments and enemies. The graphics are easily one of the games highlights, and thats a rarity among Wii games. High resolution textures and detailed character models make RS2 look like it has no buisness being on Wii, and thast a good thing.

With little variety in locations, enemies, or game modes, RS2 can get old real fast. Repetition easily sets in. After beating the main story mode, there is little to do. A bare bones challenge mode consists of cut sequences from the story mode. There is no multiplayer to speak off, be it local or online. This are flaws that should simply not exist in a full priced game, and, despite its amazing combat and controls, it’s hard to recommend RS2 at full price. The game shouldn’t be missed though, as it truly does represent the next evolution in Wii controls. It fulfills the promises of smooth and perfect sword and gun controls some may have thought weren’t possible on Wii. At a discounted price, Red Steel 2 is a game that everyone should own.
First off Im 36 and I dont typically write reviews, but I like this game so much, I decided to do so. It truly feels like a movie that you play! Highly recommended! The sword play is so real and unique… you can do this with any other consel.

Its a great game…love the sword action, and gun action. Its a good time. I dont consider myself a gamer at all. Most games I play are alot of fun at the beginning..but then they get too hard. eventually, I just stop playing cuase its not fun anymore. Not this one though. The way I explain it is that its hard enough to keep your interest, but not so hard that you hate it.

I like the game play. You dont just run around and shoot a bunch of people. Its more of a skill…if you can it that. You stun people, then use special-moves to finish them off. There a small cut-scene for every kill…but its not annoying as you may think.. Its actualy pretty cool, and only lasts for a fraction of a second.

I really do enjoy this game! Great fun!

I thought maybe that I liked it cause I am an ametuer non-gamer. But my buddy that is an avid gamer played it…and cant put it down either.

It’s a shame that bad reviews regarding technical issues tend to derate this product in the eyes of the perspective buyer. I feel sorry for those with technical issues because this is a great game. I have a large gameroom, but the clear space around the circumference of the board is only a few feet. Not even enough to be considered ‘safe’. Still, calibration was surprisingly quick and I was up and training in minutes.
WARNING: This game is physically challenging for overweight 40 year olds. But, I’m personally very happy about that because I am one. To be honest, 1st person shooters are doing nothing for my belly, so a bit of enjoyable exercise was welcome. Also, this isn’t ‘Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland’ = No storyline. The Gameplay involves getting through courses and going for high scores. Plenty to unlock. The presentation is lighthearted and fun with a strong Wii-like influence. There is quite a bit of live video commentary which only adds to the fun. The music is excellent like most Hawk games, 64 tracks!
IMPORTANT: I’ve read complaints about linearity and lack of freedom of gameplay and poor responsiveness. There are several modes of gameplay which exist to help players get used to the innovative controller. The board is responsive yet difficult to master. Give it a chance and step up to hardcore mode before judging. Free Skate is available for levels that have been unlocked. There are also several multi-player mode challenges similar to older Hawk games that can be played on one controller.
VERDICT: Fun! Buy this game if you are looking for good clean fun.
CAVEAT: Challenging! Avoid this game if physical activity is contraindicated.
I saw mostly negative reviews for RIDE. I was lucky too busy to try it nor any game back in then.
As a casual skater/boarder and serious gamer,
I enjoyed great original games like Tony hawk Pro skater, SSX, GTA3, Antigrav, GrandTourisumo, JetSetRadio Future, as well as Top Skater on arcade. They showed me new possibility of game and was FUN.
Some reviewers say Shred is not realistic and kiddy. They say SKATE is better. Fine. To me, controlling virtual board with finger is so 20th century and nothing new. No reason to spend my precious time for. Kinect and Move, I don’t know if this they can do better job than what EyeToy and Wii already done.
Shred. So far I played 3hours, The board controller works well. Menu is well designed. Loading time is okay. I like graphics.
If you demand dirty street feel and reality, grab your board and leave home. I enjoy this virtually enhanced version of these sports. Well worth the price.
Run don’t walk away from this game. Could not get the board to complete initial calibration. Instructions read “make sure there is four feet of clearence around the controller”. However , the fine print on the Activision help site reads “It’s possible that walls, people, or other entities are triggering the IR sensors on the sides of the board. Large metal objects such as filing cabinets can also cause this issue, even outside the four foot range. To prevent this issue, make sure that there are four feet of free space on all sides whenever playing. Ensure no large metal objects are nearby (within 10 feet.) If that doesn’t resolve the issue please try a different set of batteries, and reattempt the calibration process.” And “It’s possible that walls, people, or other entities are triggering the IR sensors on the sides of the board. To prevent this issue, make sure that there are four feet of free space on all sides whenever playing and that there are no large metal objects nearby. Return to the main menu and select “Options”, then select “Calibrate Board” and follow the onscreen instructions. Make sure to follow the steps exactly and hold the board in the calibrating positions for the amount of the time the video that is playing is telling you. During the initial IR sensor calibration process ensure that you are standing away from the board and that you are motionless. When it is time to calibrate each individual IR sensor you will then be asked to stand on the board and will be shown some positions on the board to hold. Ensure that your entire foot is covering the lens of the particular IR sensor you are instructed to cover. Also ensure the board is facing the right direction. The buttons on the board should be on the left side of the board. Cover the whole sensor for the full count. Tony Hawk will say “Got it” when the timer is finishing. Continue to hold that board position until the button prompt to continue appears. Stepping off of the board before that will cause an error even after Tony Hawk says “Got it”. You do not need to press a button to continue to move on to the next step. The calibration video will move on to the next step on its own. If you still have issues with the calibration then try lowering the lights in the room. Sometimes bright lights can interfere with the IR sensors. If failure to calibrate persists, move the board over a few inches in any direction from the start point of the failed calibration. Repositioning the board from the start point has shown to help during calibration issues. If all else fails try a different set of batteries, and attempt to recalibrate the board.” 1) moved ALL furniture out of the room, 2) replaced batteries, 3)closed the blinds in the room. NOTHING worked. I have prepared for a return and will update when my refund is received.

Santa brought this game to my 3-yr-old for Christmas. It’s the only game he ever wants to play on his PS2 now! Of course, he’s CARS crazy like most 3-yr-old boys and he gets thrilled that he can race as any of the Radiator Springs characters (I found a cheat code online to unlock all the characters….cheating, I know. But I don’t have time to sit and unlock characters for him). There are tons of games to choose from including Monster Truck racing, Mater the Greater, El Materdor, and Tokyo Mater (a definite plus in his book!). The game can be played in story mode with one player (where he roams around Radiator Springs looking for events) or arcade mode with one or two players where he can play lots of fun minigames or racing against a friend. I highly recommend this game to anyone with a CARS fan in the house! =)
This is a Christmas gift for my nephew. I am sure he will like it as he loves CARS. Other reviews said the entire family enjoyed the game. I am hoping for the same.
My six year old loves this game, it’s easy to learn how to play. Older kids probably wouldn’t like it.

Description of Super Paper Mario

The newest chapter of the Paper Mario story isn

Customer Reviews

Super Paper Mario, like the Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, was originally a Gamecube game that was moved on over to the Wii. Still, it’s definitely a game we’ve been waiting for and definitely a game worth getting a hold of. Simply put, this is one of the games Wii owners ought to want.

The storyline in Super Paper Mario isn’t really anything special, but it’s certainly one to honor for its fine script and clever writing. An evil magician named Count Bleck plans on taking over the world, and as Mario you’ll need to stop him by finding the pieces of the purity heart that’ll allow you to do so. In truth, the storyline is actually really crazy, but I’d rather not give too much away. It’s actually a really enjoyable story Mario fans will love in the long run.

The game is very dialogue heavy but at least its creative. Much of it is very humorous and will have you laughing quite a bit. But when I say dialog heavy, I’m not kidding. You’ll be mashing on the 2 button a lot. It wouldn’t be so bad if characters didn’t go on to explain such things that were useless.

Super Paper Mario is truly something remarkable in terms of its gameplay. It mixes Platforming and RPG elements. There’s still a need to level up and Mario has his set of HP but all the way, this is a platformer. It plays very similar to Super Mario Brothers on the NES. However, a slight problem with this kind of gameplay, is that those who were really addicted to side scrolling Mario games and were used to holding down a button to run will be surprised to learn there is no button to run! It’s no big deal, but if you’re feeling nostalgic (as you probably will playing this game) it’s actually something long time Mario fans may have to get used to, especially because Mario doesn’t move very fast.

During the game you can press the A button and flip the screen from the 2D world to the 3D world any time you want. Most of the time you’ll be playing the game in the 2D realm, but there’s plenty to be done in 3D too. It’s a necessity to getting past some of the games puzzles. If you’re ever stuck on puzzle just try flipping. It’s also used to get past environmental objects. If a pipe is too tall for Mario to jump over, for example, then you can switch the game to the 3D view and simply walk around it. You can’t stay in 3D forever. If you stay in 3D for too long Mario will take damage.

The problem with the gameplay is that the game is far too easy. Most enemies are easily dispatched and don’t do much damage to you anyway. Even boss battles are of little challenge. The boss fights are fun, at least, requiring you to fight them in interesting ways, but they’re still on the easy side. If you’re an expert gamer, I don’t predict you’ll die anytime soon throughout your adventure.

Mario also isn’t alone. He’ll be joined by Peach, Luigi and Bowser throughout his travels, and each of them has an ability they can do. Peach can float, Luigi has a high jump and Bowser can spit fire. You can switch between them at any time, and there are moments when you’ll actually need a certain character to do things. However, the game relies heavily on the mechanic of going from 2D to 3D and only Mario can actually do this. Despite that you’ve got other characters, you’ll still play through most of the game as Mario.

Throughout your adventures you’ll also collect Pixls. Little fairy like creatures that give Mario and company other abilities he can use. For example, early on in the game he meets a pixl that allows him to grab enemies and other objects and throw them. There are plenty of other powers. Needless to say, Super Paper Mario is filled with secrets.

The wii remote works well with this game. As noted you’ll hold it like an NES controller and play the game in basically the same style you played the original Super Mario Brothers. The Wii controls, however, feel a little tacked on. You can point the remote to search for hidden doors or scan enemies. You can also shake when you jump off an enemy to get more points. The wii remote doesn’t have a big impact on the gameplay, though.

Visually, of course, the game looks like a late generation Gamecube game. However, the games unique style alone warrants its beauty. The 2D landscape is far better looking than the 3D landscape, though. The 2D backgrounds are beautiful, and the background environments really shower a lot of detail. 3D doesn’t look as good, though because it’s just not as pretty and filled with life. Most of the level designs themselves are also pretty plain. As far as platforming goes, there’s nothing too intuitively designed either. The levels also aren’t filled to the brim with enemies. There’s a lot of jumping, but not a lot of obstacles in your way.

The game also sounds really good. There’s no voice acting to speak of, really. Which sucks for a game as text heavy as this, but most gamers who’ve been gaming for well over a decade probably won’t care about this, anyway.

On the whole, Super Paper Mario is a must own title for the Wii. It’s been ingeniously designed; it’s full of humor and has been cleverly written. And to top it all off, it’s just a lot of fun to play.

Pros:
Well crafted dialogue
VERY humorous game
Strikingly original gameplay elements
Simple easy gameplay to get a hold of
Good music
Plenty of things to do in the game
Cleverly designed puzzles

Cons:
-The game is far too easy for experienced gamers
-Tacked on Wii Remote controls
-Very dialogue heavy; it’s GOOD dialogue, but there are moments when you really just want to play the game
It’s a shame that so few people have Wii’s in North America. Otherwise, I would imagine that “Super Paper Mario” would have tons of reviews at this moment. This is an incredibly solid game.

Less “Paper Mario” than “Super Mario”, the game returns Mario to his 2-D roots. Gone are turn-based battles, and in their place, good ‘ole hoppin’ and boppin’ fun, like in the old days, but with one clever twist. When your character is faced with, say, an impossible jump, you can simply “flip” yourself into three dimensions, the result of which is often the opening of a new path, or the emergence of a hidden pipe, etc. It’s a clever twist on the 2-D goodness of the old “SMB” games of the Nintendo and Super Nintendo.

If I had one complaint with the game, it’s that it’s a bit too easy. With the ability to level ones character, the challenging aspects of the original “SMB” games gets a bit lost (in particular, the character will NOT die from falling in a hole, and can sustain multiple hits before running out of heart points, which can be replenished by items, or even hidden mushrooms). But make no mistake – while the game is never particularly challenging, it is always fun. The dialogue is snappy (the “dating sim” send-up is incredibly humorous, e.g.), the controls are good and responsove (I would have liked to see the nunchuk controller used a bit, particularly for the 3-D sections, but this is a mild complaint), the graphics are pretty…interesting, and the whole experience is trippy, in a “Katamari” sort of way.

All in all, a solid Wii outing – this is one of those games that makes you happy to own the system.
I am a 26 year old recent Wii purchaser (that was an ordeal) and have been out looking for games. I now have:

Wii Sports
Wii Play
Excite Truck
Rayman Raving Rabbids (the reason I bought the system, my wife was flipping over this when she saw it)
Resident Evil 4
WarioWare Smooth Moves
and now
Super Paper Mario

I used to play Mario as a kid both on my NES in the late 80′s and Super Nintendo back in the early 90′s, along with F-Zero and some other games I had. I had a 3DO after that for a while, but then have not gamed for over a decade.

The Wii has marked a triumphantly FUN return to gaming: as above, I am 26 and my wife is 21 and we are both having lots of fun. As for Mario, I must say that Super Paper Mario, for a former-Super-Mario-World player is just a TOP NOTCH experience.

Getting through the “RPG-style” story in the beginning (a style of gaming which I remember seeing friends play on their gameboys) was initially a concern of mine (because I think that stuff is boring), but the sarcasm and self-awareness of what they do is quite amusing and sucked me into the game.

The gameplay is very amusing, especially flipping back and forth between 2D and 3D…a new hilarious take on old Mario side-scrolling convention.

This is my personal favorite Wii game of the list above, because I like fun and it is just sheer fun. All others are awesome (Wii Sports is timeless, Resident Evil is epic and haunting, Excite Truck is EXCITING!, Wario is hilarious, etc.), but this is a big, enjoyable and clearly long-lasting game, since we don’t play “hard,” just casually.

I am a huge fan of the Harvest Moon games and have been since the PS1 version came out. It was rather frustrating when they kept postponing the release for the Tree of Tranquility, but the end product was definitely worth waiting for.

The storyline is great so far. You have to think a bit about what they want you to do next. It is definitely more challenging than the Magical Melodies version on the Gamecube, a definite plus, in my opinion.

I really liked the beginning, a longer story to start you off in your new home on the island. Yes, it is true that you get tired very easily in the beginning of the game, but I look at it as a challenge rather than a frustration. Once you start to save a bit of money up, and you can start improving your tools, your energy will last much longer. You don’t want the game to be too easy or your first run through will be over too fast!

One nice thing about the early part of the game is that, even if you are tired from farming, you can still work that part-time job for the extra cash. I do agree that it would have been nice to have a mini-game for the part-time job rather than just a (little bit too long) movie clip.

Great variety of new animals in the game, easy farming controls, easy to get the animals in and out of the barn to graze. Nice to be able to decorate your house the way you want it, options to buy more land etc… It seems like they kept a lot of the good things that were in the gamecube Magical Melodies version and added even more nice things for variety.

I think they did a fantastic job with this game, and if you have enjoyed past Harvest Moon releases, you will probably love it too.

*Update. There is a very bad game killing glitch in regards to female players courting Calvin. If you’re playing as the girl character, the game will freeze when you trigger Calvin’s “five heart” event, which is his “request” event. This happens on the 10th floor of the mines. While looking at the mural Calvin freezes halfway through his speech, the game hard-locks and requires a system reset. This happened to me personally and I am not happy about it one bit. This is a major issue that now prevents me from going past the 10th floor in the mine unless I fall through a crack in the floor. I would drop my rating of the game to 3 1/2 stars just for the fact that I now have to work on lowering Calvins heart level so I can access the mines normally…what a pain. :( *

Well, I will start off with the fact that I am very pleased with the controls in this game. The Wii remote is utilized in such a way that it works perfectly. You can use your buttons or swing your remote around to achieve various tasks with your tools. I like having options on how to perform a task because sometimes I feel like swinging my arm around, and sometimes I don’t. This is a great improvement over the new DS Island of Happiness that doesn’t give you options in the way of control and was only stylus driven (which is a pain IMO).

As for this game, once you get going it really is very enjoyable and there is so much do. I know another reviewer complained how quickly their character tires from doing tasks throughout the day. This improves quickly as you upgrade your tools and skill level. Each tool upgrade lessens the amount of stamina used performing tasks. The hot springs used daily in the beginning is a major asset that allows you to double the amount of work you can perform in one day. There are herbs lying around at specific locations on the map that boost your stamina a little. The mushrooms in the mines area good source for an energy boost also. There is a great guide that you can buy for this game that is very helpful in getting you through that first tough season.

Fishing is really enjoyable. It also is a great source of money in the beginning. If you can buy matches from the General store and grill your fish at the fire pits next to the ocean that will boost quite a lot of your stamina if you eat them throughout the day.

I am already in the Fall season and have a barn, coop, and a 2nd level house. One cow, 1 sheep, 4 chickens, 1 silkworm, and finally my horse! Gardening is a lot of fun and with all that my character has accomplished there is still a ton of things to do that she simply hasn’t had time or money to get to yet.

I like the Taylor shop that allows you to buy new outfits and hats! I was so happy when that store opened so I could upgrade my Rucksack! Whoohoo!

There aren’t many cons to this game, but I feel they should be mentioned. Loading time between each area of the map is just annoying. I think that this takes to long and detracts from game play. Also, time is not stopped when you’re in the mines, barns, or stores. It does give the game a bit more challenge, but its annoying to get kicked out of a store right when your about to make a purchase. Rushing in the barns to try and feed your animals, groom, shear, milk, etc. Trying to get out of the mines and hoping you make it home before the next day. I understand other HM versions worked this way, but I guess I am just not used to it yet.

All in all this is definitely a 5 star game. I haven’t encountered any glitches so far (knock on wood). I look forward to seeing what else this game has to offer and I doubt I will be disappointed.
All in all, this is a pretty fantastic iteration of Harvest Moon. It combines the more dramatic, realistic setting and graphics of A Wonderful Life with the more childlike and cutesy feeling of Magical Melody and Harvest Moon 64 (still my gold standard after all these years). I haven’t played it a whole lot yet (I just got it last night, after all) but I can tell it’s going to get plenty of play at my house.

I already love the look of the game. It’s pretty to look at, prettier than Magical Melody, though not as realistic and striking as A Wonderful Life (it’s close, though). One of the first things that struck me was how bright and colorful it is. The flowers in particular are very well designed and richly colored (check out the interior of Souflee Farm to see what I mean). The detail on everything is very nice so far. The crops I’ve seen have been well rendered and the trees and plants and rocks are very realistic and obviously a lot of thought and effort was put into their design. I appreciate little details like that because it shows that the game wasn’t just thrown together. The characters are also well done with many newly designed characters to look at and interact with. I would have preferred a more classic design on the male character, though. It feels less like Harvest Moon with no ball cap and/or bright red neckerchief. And a bowl cut? Seriously? But I digress…

To be fair, there are a few aspects of the game that I’m not in love with. They are as follows:

-Load times. If I’m not mistaken, this is the first Harvest Moon game with an actual “Loading” screen. It comes up every time you’re going from location to location (i.e. from Town Square to Lake District or into someone’s house) which is to say “a lot”. It’s not a dealbreaker, of course, but it does kind of interrupt the flow of the game.

-Cutesy music. The music for A Wonderful Life is dramatic and melancholy and orchestral and always fits the mood of the game perfectly. Even the whimsical Magical Melody has more serious music than Tree Of Tranquility. It’s all peppy, fake-sounding synthesizers that just don’t set the mood in the way past Harvest Moon games’ music has. Of course, I’ve only played through the early tutorial stage and a few days of Spring so far, so hopefully the Fall and Winter music will be appropriately austere as in games past.

But, in the end, this is a new Harvest Moon game and Natsume would have to get pretty much EVERYTHING wrong to make me give it less than 3 stars. As such, Tree Of Tranquility makes an easy 4 out of 5 overall. And if Tree Of Tranquility lives up to its hype as the biggest, most in-depth Harvest Moon game ever, my final judgment may wind up being more than 4 stars. Only time will tell, and any time playing Harvest Moon is time well spent.

SAME CALIBRATION ISSUE WASTED ALOT OF TIME!!!!!! NOT HAPPY!!!!! PROBLEM IS NOT THE GAME!!!! THE BATTERIES THEY INCLUDE WITH THE GAME ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HIT THE WII SENSOR. AFTER WASTING TWO HOURS TRYING TO HELP MY SON, INQUIRED DID BATTERIES COME WITH IT? WHEN I REALIZED HE HAD INSERTED STOCK BATTERIES THAT CAME WITH THE GAME – REPLACED THEM WITH MY NEW ENERGIZER BATTERIES AND BEHOLD THE GAME CALIBRATED IN 15 SECONDS. EXCELLANT GAME – LOUSY BATTERIES.
If I could give this product zero stars I would. I got this for my son for his birthday. “Best birthday present EVER!” he said after opening it. Then…it didn’t work. We tried to “calibrate the board” for about 45 minutes…still not working. Got online and saw that it is a huge problem with the board. I am not willing to move all of my furniture (as others have) just to get the game to work (and many times that doesn’t work either!). I will be returning it and will never buy another Tony Hawk product. My son is really bummed, he never even got a chance to play the game. I have told all of my friends that bought this for Christmas – return it now before your kid goes through what mine did!!!
Bought one for my son’s birthday and it wouldn’t calibrate after lots of effort. Exchanged it for another and the same thing happened. I finally just returned it. I found out from other web sites that this is a common problem.

Overall we give EA MySims Agents 5 out of 5 fun game play, a great story line, challenging puzzles, and good interactivity. We love the fact that it is so well suited for younger kids, encourages reading, reading comprehension, deductive reasoning, and problem solving. We would highly recommend this game for Wii owners with children over 6 years old. And oh, by the way, it wasn’t just the kids who loved the game. We’ve been having a great time playing it too!

We did a full, in-depth review of this game at our blog and it’s all from a mom’s perspective (well, mostly). Check it out here: [...]
15 hours. I know that I can blow through puzzle solvers very quickly, but … /sigh.

You run around talking to people for the most part. There are actual puzzles to solve, but once you get the hang of the drag and drop system they’re pretty easy.

There are also “Dispatch Missions.” *You are not directly involved in the Dispatch Missions.* You assign NPCs to solve the mission for you. Each takes a certain amount of time, and every few minutes you get a text message from the people you assigned to a mission. I’ll not go into detail, but you do have to have all of them solved for you to finish the game.

The last thing you do in the game is wait for the last dispatch mission to be solved. You can run around and look for “easter eggs” while you wait. Nuthin’ like not being directly involved in the climax of a game to give you that disappointed feeling.
I thought this game was going to be fun for kids of all ages but it is not at all. The controls are very simple which can be good in some cases but they dont include the wii motion controls whatsoever. THe graphics of this game are good for the wii, nothing special but what really bummed me was the lack of replay value. Once you are done with the game. (which happens to be in three days) you are done, thats it no unlockables

Having a lot of fun with Tony Hawk SHRED here in the house. Game is easy to play with both us adults and the kids. Nice that Tony and his friends encourage us as we play. The graphics are really fun and colorful. Snowboarding is a great surprise, had just as much fun with that. Lots of improvements over RIDE.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a family game for the xbox
I have never written a review, but I am compelled to write one now to spare others of agony.
We too could not get the board to calibrate last night.
But it was late and we gave up after 30 minutes.

Today I saw that there are 100 reviews for the Wii version of this game.
And many of them are regarding the calibration issue.

I read thru all the Wii reviews and decided to apply the suggested solutions one at a time:
1. My basement had 4 ft clearance all around the board.
So I didn’t have to rearrange any furnitures.
2. Checked the included batteries with a voltmeter.
All 4 were 1.54 V. So I left them as is.
3. Calibrated with lights off. No good.
4. Calibrated with lights off and a thick cushion in front of the cable box. Bingo!!!
BTW, I did not turn off the cable box. I just blocked it with a thick cusion.

For me, it appears that cable box was interfering.

And kids had a great time playing the game tonight.
God bless and a Happy New Year!
I have RIDE and enjoyed it but this is a whole new experience. SHRED looks and feels better and is a blast to play, especially with the kids. Very easy to control and very active. Big hit as a gift (for myself this time!).
